Camp Furniture

For a basic camping trip, you'll need a camping chair for everybody and a camping table to give you a comfortable place to sit, eat, prepare food and relax. This is a guide, though, and the furniture you need will depend on your requirements.

If you're looking for a minimalist or highly compact camping experience, then you may prefer a compact and lightweight camp stool rather than a chair and might not have a table at all.

If you have plenty of space in a trailer or caravan, you might want to upgrade to a reclining chair or a lounger. If you're planning a longer camping holiday and want to organize your tent space, then camp cupboards are ideal.

There are many different styles of camping chair to choose from, which one is best for you will depend on your needs:

Camping stools - highly compact and lightweight, camping stools are a great choice for travelling light or days out when you need an alternative to perching on a rock or the ground.

Compact chairs - from low-rise beach chairs to camp chairs with ultra small pack sizes, compact chairs are a great option when you don't want to pack or haul large bags.

Quad folding chairs - whether you know them as spider chairs, umbrella folding chairs or quad chairs, these ubiquitous camp chairs are a staple feature of campsites, events and braais across South Africa. They come in a wide variety of designs, colours, budgets and weight ratings, so you're bound to find something that suits you.

Directors chairs - if you're looking for a chair with sturdy arms and a more upright seating position, then a directors chair is ideal. Folding flat for storage and transport, these camp chairs are ideal for sitting by a table.

Recliners - If you've got a bit more packing space such as a caravan, a reclining chair makes a comfortable alternative to a standard camping chair. These chairs feature higher backs, solid arms and multi position reclining back rests for adjustable comfort. They're also great for sitting out and relaxing in the garden too.

Loungers - Whether at the campsite or at home, lounger chairs are the ultimate in outdoor relaxation. With a reclining back and a lifting leg support, these chairs will allow you to unwind all afternoon and fold up for transportation and storage.

Camping chairs, recliners, loungers and camp tables are definitely built to withstand use outdoors during camping trips, events and days in the garden. They're not intended for permanent use in the garden, though, and should always be stored out of the elements and in any storage bags they may have when not in use to protect them from rain, dirt and excessive sun exposure.

When not in use, ensure that you store you camping furniture in the supplied storage bag (if applicable). This will prevent dust buildup and any unwanted weathering. It is best to store camping furniture indoors such as in a garage, shed or storage cupboard so they are not damaged by the elements.
